Mike and Aarin Shaw set out for 3 days on Flaming Gorge Resevoir
in early June 2004. They fished hard for as long as they could
each day, but each day they were blown off the lake by wind,
thunderstorms, and rain. All told Mike figured they got in
about a day and a half worth of fishing.
Despite the poor weather, they trolled up 7 very nice quality
lake trout with five in the 10 to 15lb class, one at 25lbs
and one very large specimen at 32lbs. Aarin brought in the
25lber and on the third day, early in the morning, Mike battled
the 32lber for over 10 minutes to get it to the net.
All fish were caught on 12" MS Slammers, trolled on
downriggers at around 3.5 mph. Mike said that this year the
strikes were especially vicious with many of the fish popping
the downrigger and taking off full speed. All of these big
lakers were released to fight another day.
